Castles are some of the most iconic locations in any fantasy TTRPG. Whether your party is infiltrating a noble estate, defending a fortress from siege, or navigating dangerous court politics from within, a well-designed castle map gives DMs the space to stage all sorts of dramatic encounters and memorable story moments.

From royal palaces and fortified toll castles to eerie Shadowfell strongholds and vampiric mansions, these maps offer a variety of ways to bring intrigue, exploration, and conflict into your next D&D adventure.
1. Courtly Intrigue — Royal Palace Series

Few locations signal wealth and authority quite like a royal palace. This Royal Palace Series captures the scale and grandeur of a ruler’s residence, with multiple interconnected interior spaces designed to play host to all sorts of courtly ceremonies and political intrigue.
Your party might come here to attend a tense audience with the monarch, investigate conspiracies among rival nobles, or even serve as guards for an important gathering. This set of maps is absolutely perfect for any campaign involving court politics, such as Daggerheart’s Five Banners Burning campaign frame.
2. Feudal Fortress — Shogun's Castle Interior & Exterior

This Shogun's Castle complex is perfect for campaigns inspired by feudal courts and martial traditions. With its layers of fortifications and open courtyards, it supports both infiltration and defensive encounters—perhaps your players are sent as diplomats to sneak through the compound to uncover secrets within, or stationed here to help defend the castle from rival clans.

The map also comes with various interior versions, expanding the castle into a network of elegant rooms and halls.

It also includes a scene illustration that helps establish the castle's imposing scale as your players approach.
3. Warden’s Keep— Riverwood Toll Castle

Strategic crossings have always been prime locations for fortifications, and this Riverwood Toll Castle might have been built to control one of the most important points along a busy trade route.
Use this castle to host adventures involving border conflicts, or even smugglers trying to bypass the toll. Perhaps your players must negotiate passage among corrupted officers, or defend the bridge from a fast-approaching enemy force.

This map comes with an interior layout for everyday castle life, offering plenty of spaces for roleplay and investigative gameplay.

It also includes a scene illustration highlighting the formidable defenses guarding the crossing.
4. Skybound Dominion — Floating Castle

Few strongholds are as dramatic as a castle suspended in the sky. This Floating Castle immediately signals that powerful magic—or a powerful ruler—is keeping it aloft.
Such a location works perfectly as the lair of an archmage or celestial being, or a monarch whose power extends far beyond their crown. Your party might arrive here seeking ancient knowledge, or challenge the castle’s master for the secrets in its halls.
5. A Stronghold Rising — Castle Construction

This Castle Construction map is a bit different from the typical fortress maps on this list—instead of exploring a finished stronghold, your players might have to get involved while it is still being built.
This makes the map great for campaigns where a new kingdom or faction is trying to establish itself. Players might be hired to defend the construction site from rival armies or sabotage an enemy’s fortress before it’s completed. Or, perhaps, they might even be here to oversee the building of their own stronghold as part of a larger storyline.
6. Glamorous Estates — Archon’s Villa

Though not a fortified stronghold, this Archon’s Villa is still a lavish estate that may hide many secrets. Sure to impress visitors and assert its owner’s wealth and influence, this map is perfect for intrigue adventures involving powerful aristocrats and factions.
Beneath the surface glamor, however, lies a hidden entrance leading to underground catacombs full of traps and secrets—suggesting the villa’s master might be hiding far more than fine wine in the cellar!
7. Sentinel of the Sea — Tidal Islands Fort

Inspired by coastal fortifications like those of Essaouira, this Tidal Island Fort is designed with one purpose in mind: to command the surrounding waters and repel invaders.
The compact fortress offers multiple approaches for daring adventurers hoping to infiltrate its stone walls. Characters might sneak in under the cover of darkness, climb across the wreckage left by shipwrecks, or storm the bridge while defenders rain arrows and cannonballs from above.

This map comes with an illustrated scene that establishes the dramatic isolation of the stonebound stronghold.
8. Court of the Spider Queen — Drow Manor

The Drow Manor is a towering Underdark residence built into a stalagmite, combining decadent luxury with a sinister gothic atmosphere.
Inside, players might encounter noble gatherings, eerie religious ceremonies, or even find themselves prisoners forced to entertain the cruel nobility. With locations like temple chambers, servant quarters, and an ominous fighting pit, the manor can serve as the center of a dangerous political web in any Underdark campaign.
This location could even serve as a replacement for Velkynvelve in an Out of the Abyss campaign, functioning as a decadent stronghold where the party begins as captives before plotting their escape.

This map includes an illustrated scene depicting the eerie grandeur of the manor within the depths of the Underdark.
9. Shadowed Bastion — Shadowfell Fortress

This Shadowfell Fortress feels like a place pulled straight out of a nightmare. Suspended in a bleak void by glowing chains, it provides a chilling stage for climactic encounters in any planar adventure.
Players might storm the fortress to defeat a powerful ancient being or rescue captives held within its towers. The fortress’s many towers, ramparts, and courtyards provide plenty of space to stage terrifying encounters with shadowy horrors and undead guardians.

An available animated exterior also emphasizes the danger of even approaching this planar bastion.

The map also comes with an illustrated scene that reinforces the fortress’s immense scale and oppressive atmosphere.
10. Gothic Nights — Vampire Mansion

You’d be hard-pressed to find a location that embodies gothic horror quite like a vampire lord’s residence. This Vampire Mansion is a great example of a beautifully sinister setting where elegance hides terrible secrets.
Perhaps your party is attending a noble gathering unaware of their host’s true nature, or be led here by the search for missing villagers, or they may be aware of the mansion’s master, and are brave (or foolish) enough to hunt the vampire itself through its own domain.
This location could fit especially well in a gothic horror campaign such as Curse of Strahd, or one set in Ravenloft.

This map comes with a basement layer that reveals the sinister rituals and hidden horrors lurking beneath the mansion’s elegant facade.

It also includes an animated scene that perfectly captures the mansion's ominous atmosphere as it looms over the surrounding forest.
