Post-apocalyptic TTRPG campaigns can take almost any form, from worlds scorched by environmental collapse, overrun by the infected, drowned beneath rising seas, or shattered by supernatural disasters. Whatever caused the end, post-apocalyptic adventures often center on survival, scarcity, exploration, and building new beginnings from what has been lost.
For this list, we’ve picked out ten of our favorite post-apocalyptic battlemaps for D&D or other TTRPGs. These maps cover ruined cities, flooded towns, desert wastelands, raider camps, and other encounter spaces that work beautifully in any virtual tabletop.
1. Apocalyptic Fuel Station

In a post-apocalyptic world, places once mundane and taken for granted might suddenly become vital to survival. A roadside gas station might be one of the few places for miles with working machinery, stored fuel, or spare vehicle parts, making it a lifeline for anyone trying to survive the wastes.
This Apocalyptic Fuel Station map is a great backdrop for a tense roadside encounter or scavenging stop. Players might arrive desperate for fuel, only to discover that another group has already claimed the station, or that damaged pumps and tanks have become a deadly hazard in their own right.
2. Walled District

As societies begin to reform after an apocalypse, the institutions that replace the old ones may not be any kinder. Fear of outsiders, dwindling resources, and roaming threats can push settlements towards strict rules and even outright authoritarian control. A protected city might be a refuge from monsters, but it can also become a different kind of danger.
This Walled District map is an atmospheric addition to any campaign focused on powerful factions and the people living under them. Players might arrive seeking safety behind the walls, only to find that tyrannical leaders or unequal access to resources have become the cost of security in this new world.
3. Remains of Advanced Society

Post-apocalyptic settings can hit especially hard when the old world was once highly advanced. Sleek infrastructure, transit systems, and intricate machines might still stretch across the landscape, but whatever ended civilization clearly proved strong enough to bring it all crashing down.
This Remains of Advanced Society map is a melancholy depiction of a setting where survival involves picking your way through the wreckage of a world that once seemed stable and unshakeable. Players might have to navigate crumbling roads and overgrown cityscapes, all while confronting just how much has been lost.
4. Shopping Mall Ruins

Shopping malls are built for crowds, making them strangely lonely once all the bored teenagers and screaming kids are gone. Stores that once sold everyday things become scavenging spots, back rooms turn into places to hide, and these wide spaces start to feel eerie—especially when there’s no telling who else might be inside.
This Shopping Mall Ruins map shows a place that once held hundreds of people, now being reclaimed by nature, with trees and roots growing through exposed steel frame and debris scattered through an open plaza, where a lonely merry-go-round still glows faintly. There’s plenty for your crew to explore, but the large exposed spaces also mean they may have to cross a lot of ground before reaching any cover.
5. Cloning Lab (Breached)

Abandoned labs are a staple of post-apocalyptic sci-fi, and for good reason. Besides offering somewhere unique to explore beyond ruined streets and bloodied settlements, laboratories also give the audience or players a chance to piece together what happened before the world fell apart, as research notes and experiment logs offer clues about the disaster’s ground zero.
The breached version of this Cloning Lab is particularly ominous, with broken pods surrounding intricate machinery and damage that makes it clear something went terribly wrong here. As a bonus, those intact pods give the GM plenty of room to make players wonder whether the facility is really as empty as it looks. :)
6. Hoodoos Base

After the end of the world, some groups will inevitably see the collapse as an opportunity. Remote terrain can protect against outsiders, but it can also give raiders, smugglers, or would-be warlords the space to rule their own little corner of the new world without anyone to challenge them.
This Hoodoos Base works well as a raider stronghold or remote survivor outpost, with its impressive industrial structures wedged between towering desert rock formations. The cliffs give the locals a natural defensive advantage, though the scattered platforms and noisy machinery give players plenty of routes to navigate if they’re trying to sneak in.
7. Cavern Prison (Clean)

When the surface becomes too dangerous to live on, the only way to go might be down. Fallout shelters and sealed bunkers are such a familiar part of post-apocalyptic sci-fi because they not only provide a logical explanation for how people survive the end of the world, but also create communities that may have spent years, or even generations, cut off from everyone else—perfect for tension and drama.
The clean version of this Cavern Prison can easily double as a sprawling underground bunker, with living spaces, machinery, and a fortified gate built right into the rock. It gives you plenty of room for a self-contained survivor community, along with all the questions that come with one: who built this place? How long have the residents been down here? And what will they think of the crew of players that just showed up at their door?
8. Sunken Town

A flood leaves behind a very different kind of post-apocalyptic landscape from war and conflict. After the immediate danger of the powerful currents has passed, survivors find themselves in a new world where the remains of their old lives sit below the surface, just out of reach. And what looks like a peaceful stretch of water might hide sharp debris, electrical hazards, or creatures that have moved into the drowned streets.
This Sunken Town map is an almost peaceful take on the end of the world, with survivors piecing together a life of sorts above the flood. Players might need to cross between buildings without falling into the deep water, or dive for supplies trapped inside submerged structures.
9. Medical Facility (Epidemic)

Hospitals are the first place people turn when things start going wrong, making them both valuable and dangerous places in an apocalypse of biological nature—where traces of the crisis can be seen everywhere, from overcrowded wards and abandoned equipment to medical records showing how quickly the situation got out of control.
The Epidemic version of this Medical Facility captures that aftermath with dim clinical rooms, rows of empty beds, and privacy partitions that imply a last-ditch effort to stop the disaster from spreading. Players might come here looking for medicine, or to piece together what happened during the outbreak.
If you want something more supernatural for your game, there’s also an Escape variant showing a horrifying, bisected creature dragging blood through the hospital.
10. Water Treatment Plant (Abandoned)

Clean water is easy to take for granted when all you have to do is turn on a tap. After an apocalypse, as systems fail and pipes break down, safe water becomes much more difficult to come by. As such, a functioning water treatment plant could mean the difference between life and death for an entire settlement.
The party might find themselves sent to this abandoned Water Treatment Plant to repair the machinery, recover missing parts, or clear out whatever has taken over the facility—before a rival faction does. There’s also a fully operational version of the map, making for a satisfying payoff if your crew manages to get the plant up and running again.
