Obojima: Tales From the Tall Grass introduces a magical island where forgotten modern technology sits alongside hot springs, spirit markets, and mushroom villages—all wrapped up in a warm, Studio Ghibli-inspired tone. 

Whether you’re running the full campaign or borrowing a few of its cozy locales for your own adventures, these ten battlemaps are our top picks for covering some of Obojima’s most memorable stops.

1. Hogstone Hot Springs — Steamy Japanese Bathhouse

Hogstone Hot Springs cascades down the slope of Mount Arbora in a series of terraced geothermal pools, a favorite relaxation spot for travelers and locals alike.

This Steamy Japanese Bathhouse map leans right into that coziness, with its wooden bathhouse and steaming pools. Plus, the unexpected guest at the far end of the springs is sure to earn a few double takes from your players.

This map also comes with an animated illustrated scene, perfect for setting the mood the moment your party arrives at the springs. 

2. Aha Headquarters — Mountaintop Observatory

AHA (the guild of Archeologists, Historians, and Archivists) makes its home in an old observatory, the place to go if your players need answers about Obojima’s history or its many mysteries. 

This Mountaintop Observatory map captures that remote, scholarly seclusion perfectly, with its tiered cliffside terraces and rickety rope bridges. It’s an easy way to make your archivist NPCs feel a little cut off from the rest of the world, tucked away with their telescopes and theories. 

3. Domain of the Lionfish King — Coral Throne

The Lionfish King rules the Shallows from his Coral Castle, a self-proclaimed monarch—and a pompous, vain creature. Everything within the Shallows, from sunken shipwrecks to lost First Age treasures, falls under his royal decree—whether the rest of the island agrees with that claim or not. 

This Coral Throne map gives him a suitably dramatic seat, an underwater platform ringed with vivid corals and stained glass. It’s a great pick for an audience chamber if your party ever needs to negotiate, bribe, or fight their way through fish folk royalty. 

4. Ledge of Offering — Dragon’s Memorial

At Jumaga’s Roost, travelers leave gifts for the Sky Salamander on a rocky ledge tucked beside an old graveyard long since reclaimed by moss and wildflowers. Farmers come to appease the great beast and protect their cattle, while others make the climb in hopes some of its strength rubs off on them.

This Dragon’s Memorial map is hard to beat for this location, capturing the same reverence and peacefulness, tucked away in a shaded forest hollow with its offerings and altar—a perfect spot for your party to leave an offering of their own, if they so choose.

5. Uluwa — Bullywug Swamp (Marketplace Ghost Village Night)

Uluwa is known as Obojima’s Spirit Market—a ghostly town layered over an old dockside fish market. Visitors can’t just wander in—you’ll need an invitation from a spirit, or a very specific ticket, before you’ll be able to find yourself perusing its stalls.

The Marketplace Ghost Village variant of this Bullywug Swamp nails that ethereal, in-between feeling, with its stilted piers and floating stalls illuminated by glowing spirit flames scattered across dark water. It’s a perfect picture of where the physical and Spirit Realms overlap.

6. Land of Hot Water — Beachside Bazaar (Sea Serpent)

The waters off the Land of Hot Water are warmed by underwater vents, drawing in exotic marine life that locals regard with a mix of awe and caution. Sea serpents are the biggest of the bunch, and while sightings are rare, everyone here has a story about one.

The Sea Serpent variant of this Beachside Bazaar map brings these legends to life in the form of a massive glowing coil of a creature looming over a lively night market. It’s a great way to show off Obojima’s strange, beautiful ecosystem while your players haggle over goods.

7. Matango Village — Gnome City Center

In Matango Village, generations of mushroom farmers have carved their homes directly into a patch of forest so saturated with magic that its fungi grew large enough to live inside. 

This Gnome City Center map is a colorful match for that spectacle, with its clustered, colorful mushroom cap rooftops dotting a beautiful forest clearing—a fun one to drop your players into for a market day, or even the annual Truffle Festival. 

8. Chisuay Teahouse — Secluded Tea Valley

Tucked into the foothills along the Mosspot path, Chisuay’s Teahouse sits well off the beaten path. Its garden is filled with sweet and exotic herbs, and at night the whole place glows with paper lanterns and fireflies.

This Secluded Tea Valley map matches that mood beautifully, with its small thatched teahouse sitting at the center of winding garden paths and terraced tea fields—a perfect place for your party to slow down and enjoy the little things for once.

9. Forest Shrine — Forest Shrine Festival

Shrines and festivals run through Obojima’s culture, popping up in villages all across the island for every occasion imaginable. Between harvests, hunts, and seasonal turns, there’s rarely a stretch of the calendar without something worth celebrating.

This Forest Shrine Festival map fills that gap nicely: a lovely shrine at the end of a long stone path lined with market stalls—with multiple variations for various festivals and weather. Use it for any of Obojima’s many festival days, or as a shrine of your own making tucked somewhere along your players’ routes. 

10. First Age Ruins — Shopping Mall Ruins

First Age relics are scattered all across Obojima, modern technology left behind by a civilization nobody quite remembers, still humming with the occasional spark of life. Most of it, though, has long since been reclaimed by moss, vines, and curious wildlife.

This Shopping Mall Ruins map is a fun, unexpected way to bring this aspect of Obojima to life—an overgrown mall ringed by crumbling storefronts, with a still-working carousel sitting at its center. It’s always fun to catch your players off guard with something so out of place, and let them puzzle out what this world used to be like.
