The world of Eberron blends high fantasy with magical industry: with lightning rail networks, dragonmarked houses, arcane laboratories, and living constructs. Mention the setting and most players immediately picture lightning-powered trains, skyships drifting between towers, and magnificent cities filled with arcane technology. But beyond those marvels lies one of the setting’s most haunting regions—the Mournland, the devastated remains of the nation of Cyre.

The Day of Mourning, characterized by a wall of gray mist that swallowed the nation, ended the Last War in a single terrible moment. Cities were abandoned, armies fell where they stood, and strange magic began to warp the land and all within it. Today, explorers enter the Mournland in search of relics, secrets, or answers amid the eerie gray skies.
For DMs, the right battlemap can help convey both the mystery and tragedy of the setting. As such, many of the maps below use foggy, rainy, or abandoned variants, since the Mournland is often described as dim and lifeless. That said, most Czepeku maps include bright daylight versions as well, so you can choose whichever tone best fits your campaign.
1. Metrol — Train Station Platforms (Abandoned)

The capital of Cyre, Metrol, as a major hub of commerce, would have been connected to the lightning rail network run by House Orien. Before the Mourning, trains would have carried travelers across Khorvaire into the heart of the nation, making the city’s grand railway station one of its busiest gateways.
This abandoned variant of the Train Station Platforms map captures the haunting stillness of a place once meant to hold thousands of travelers. Long rail lines stretch across polished floors while seating areas wait untouched beneath towering statues and stained-glass windows. DMs can use this map for explorations of Metrol’s forgotten transit systems—though the party might not like what has taken up residence in those rail tunnels.
2. Metrol — Train Station Concourse (Cracked Clock)

If the platforms once carried travelers across the continent, the grand concourse of Metrol’s station would have been where they gathered before boarding. This Train Station Concourse map presents that grandeur frozen in time. A magnificent bronze clock dominates the center of the hall, surrounded by shopfronts that once served bustling crowds.
In this ruined variant, the clock face is cracked, as though time itself stopped the moment the Mourning struck. Use this map to host a scavenger market among the ruins, an encounter with a mutated monster, or as the starting point for a deeper expedition into the rail tunnels below.
3. Eston — Overground Dwarven City Center (Abandoned)

The city of Eston was once the primary stronghold of House Cannith, and the magical industry responsible for the creation of the warforged. Built near rich mineral deposits, Eston developed as a hub for mining, artificer workshops, and magical manufacturing during the Last War.
The abandoned variant of this Overground Dwarven City center map reflects that rugged industrial character. Stone buildings and walkways are carved directly into surrounding hillsides, while sturdy plazas and forges hint at a haven built by miners and craftsmen. Use this map for encounters with monsters and scavengers picking through the ruins, or to hide an entrance to the Cannith facilities buried beneath the stone streets.
4. Eston — Warforged Factory (Mournlands)

Deep within Eston’s industrial districts stood the great facilities that helped supply Cyre’s armies during the Last War. These magical factories housed workshops, furnaces, and assembly halls where House Cannith artificers once experimented with constructs and built weapons of war.
The Mournland variant of this Warforged Factory is literally tailor-made to convey that arcane industry. Conveyor belts run between workshop rooms filled with prototype constructs and a blazing forge. Run dungeon-style exploration here as the party moves through the facility—perhaps triggering half-finished warforged or unstable magical engines that spark to life at the worst moment.
5. House Cannith Creation Forge — Ancient World Forge

House Cannith’s most controversial invention was the creation forge, the magical engine used to produce soldiers during the Last War. These arcane machines used magic, forgework, and artificer engineering to create living constructs known as the Warforged.
This majestic Ancient World Forge map feels just like stepping into the heart of such a facility. A massive golden corridor stretches toward an immense arcane device, framed by glowing blue energy globes. The architecture feels almost futuristic—which is perfect for Cannith’s mastery of magic and technological experimentation.
6. The Glowing Chasm — Shadowlands Pyramid (Violet)

One of the most mysterious landmarks in the Mournlands is the Glowing Chasm, an enormous crack in the earth that emits an eerie purple light from deep below. The origin of the chasm remains unknown, but creatures that linger near it often become warped or mutated by its strange magical energies.
It’s hard to imagine a more perfect fit for this eerie phenomenon than this Shadowlands Pyramid map. A massive ravine cuts through the land, glowing with violet light that spills across jagged cliffs and twisted ruins. At its center sits a mysterious, arcane structure surrounded by ancient bones and gnarled roots. Use this map for encounters with mutated creatures drawn to the glowing depths, or an exploration to uncover the magical mystery below the surface.
7. Crimson Water — Dead Angel Reef (Blood Angel)

Within the Mournlands lies the Crimson Water, a lake whose waters have turned deep red since the day of the Mourning. If that wasn’t creepy enough, the shoreline is littered with the remains of creatures that attempted to drink from the water.
The blood variant of this Dead Angel Reef map transforms this creepy location into a haunting landscape of crimson water and vibrant red-stained plants. The skeletal remains of a massive winged creature lie half-submerged in the lake. The sight alone raises countless questions about what might have happened here.
8. The Mist Wall — Medusa’s Wake (Fog)

The borders of the Mournland are surrounded by the Mist Wall, a supernatural fog that stretches high into the sky and can span miles in thickness. Travelers entering the fog often become disoriented or lost, making it one of the most dangerous parts of any journey into Cyre’s ruined lands.
The fog variant of this Medusa’s Wake map is one of many hazy maps that capture that unsettling threshold. A rocky canyon, shrouded in thick mist, hides broken ruins and scattered giant statues. Use this map as the party’s first step into the Mournland, where the strange petrified figures hint at past tragedies of the land.
9. Fields of Ruin — Ancient Battlefield (Rain)

Across Cyre lie countless battlefields where armies clashed during the Last War. When the Mourning struck, soldiers fell where they stood, leaving these sites frozen in time. Today, they are known collectively as the Fields of Ruin.
This Ancient Battlefield map depicts one such desolate site. Crumbling stone walls and shattered buildings mark what might once have been a settlement; the landscape feels quiet and mournful, perfect for a tragic remnant of the Last War.
10. Warforged Colossi — Rusty Robot Lake (Rain)

During the Last War, House Cannith constructed enormous war machines known as warforged colossi—towering constructs capable of devastating entire battlefields. When the war ended, many of these giants were abandoned across the landscape.
This Rusty Robot Lake map is perfect for showing the remains of one such colossus, half-submerged in a quiet lake. Moss-covered metal plates and mechanical limbs lay sunken under a small research facility. The scene feels peaceful at first glance, but the scale of the machine hints at the power it once held. Use this map to stage expeditions inside the ruined colossus, or even an attempt to reactivate it.
