6. Oasis City

Need a picturesque base of operations for your desert campaign? This Oasis City map depicts an idyllic walled city nestled beside the pristine blue waters of an oasis, featuring sandstone buildings, lush palm trees, and splashes of vibrant mercantile stalls, forming a haven for your players.
This map would serve well as a bustling trade hub in your desert setting, or as a peaceful refuge from the desert's harrowing horrors. It can be a place for your players to rest, gather information, trade goods, and interact with a variety of NPCs.
This map also comes with a Scene—a beautifully rendered, cinematic illustration that’s sure to immerse your players in their adventures. Check it out in our scenes library!
💡 As you crest one final dune, the sight of the Oasis City sprawls before you: a turquoise gem nestled in the heart of the desert. A lake of glimmering blue water glints gold in the sunlight, framing a walled city of sandstone buildings rising proudly from the lush greenery.
Suggested Encounters
- Cultural Festival: The city is hosting a grand festival, attracting visitors from all across the desert—and the party has arrived just in time to participate in various celebration activities, from contests of skill to performances. This scenario gives your party the opportunity to roleplay, relax, and navigate the sociopolitics of the city’s factions.
- Sand Spider Infestation: The city has been overrun by giant sand spiders, leaving webs covering the buildings and streets. The party will need to find and eliminate the source of the infestation, whether it’s a dark ritual gone wrong, a hidden nest buried under the city, or even an angry druid having a bad day! (We recommend using the Spider Infestation map variant for this one!)
- Deadly Oasis: The pristine waters of the oasis have turned radioactive and toxic green, devastating the town's inhabitants and the nearby wildlife alike. The party must get to the bottom of this contamination and uncover any mysterious natural causes or sabotage by hostile forces. (We recommend using the Deadly Oasis map variant for this one!)
7. Minotaur Labyrinth

Few dungeons are as classic as a good old-fashioned maze, rife with peril and mystery at every turn. This Minotaur Labyrinth map showcases an iconic dungeon setting, filled with dangerous corners, hidden side-chambers, and secret passages. The labyrinth’s central maze is surrounded by offshoots perfect for encounters, traps, and treasure, all culminating in a grand boss room designed for a climactic final battle.
Whether the adventure brings your players here to uncover hidden secrets, defeat a fearsome creature, or stop a dark ritual, his map is great for parties that enjoy investigation, strategy, puzzles, and intense combat encounters.
💡 The walls of the maze loom above and around you, intricate carvings and weathered stone as far as you can see. The air settles cold and still, silent but for the faint echo of your footsteps. Every turn and corridor twists endlessly, flickering candlelight casting long shadows that dance across the stone. Wait a moment, haven’t you seen this hallway before?
Suggested Encounters
- The Minotaur: Of course, what labyrinth would be complete without its iconic guardian? The party must navigate the maze and defeat the fearsome minotaur at the heart of the labyrinth, fending off traps and lesser monsters along the way. The minotaur boss fight might feature unique mechanics like a devastating charge that the party might leverage against the crumbling pillars of the boss chamber.
- Cursed Treasure: Some of the rooms in the maze might contain loot, but there’s no such thing as a free lunch! These treasures might bring misfortune, slowly corrupt their users, summon hostile creatures when opened, or even be mimics themselves.
- Rival Explorers: Another group of adventurers might also be exploring the labyrinth, aiming to compete with the party for treasure or glory. The two groups may run into each other while navigating the labyrinth, or even be forced to form a temporary alliance to overcome its challenges.
8. Ancient Hydra Lair

While the labyrinth might have been built to trap the minotaur, this Ancient Hydra Lair was clearly built in worship, offering players a haunting glimpse of a once-sacred temple turned deadly arena. Nestled deep within a maze-like cavern, this ruined structure tells a story of a revered creature fallen from grace.
The central arena is adorned with intricate paintings of the hydra’s many heads, set within gilded jade-green stones now in ruins and smeared with blood. This map is perfect for an intense boss battle, serving as the setting for a climactic battle against a massive hydra.
💡 The air begins to grow thick with the scent of decay and old blood. The cavern walls begin to give way to marbled stone, before opening up to a vast, ruined temple. Crumbling pillars rise from the blood-stained ground, casting long shadows across the ancient arena. The courtyard before you is adorned with faded, but still beautiful, paintings of the hydra’s many heads, each draconic eye seeming to follow your every move.
Suggested Encounters
- Rescue Mission: The party learns that a hydra-worshiping cult has been kidnapping beloved NPCs for a sacrificial ritual. They’ll need to navigate the caverns, battle cultists, and avoid traps to reach the temple arena and interrupt the ritual. Even if they succeed, a desperate cultist might sacrifice themselves to summon the hydra!
- Echoes of the Past: While exploring the temple, the party might encounter spirits of ancient hydra worshippers who built this temple of reverence, and need to communicate with them. The spirits can reveal the temple’s history, the hydra’s nature, and its potential weaknesses.
- The Hydra: Of course, it wouldn’t be much of an Ancient Hydra Lair without the iconic monster itself! The hydra has multiple heads, each capable of independent attacks, and severed heads regenerate unless properly dealt with. The party might need to use the arena to their advantage, utilizing the crumbling pillars to defend against this powerful boss.
9. Wild West Saloon

Adventurers need to rest, too! This Wild West Saloon map provides DMs with a sprawling, multi-floor establishment set against an arid desert backdrop. The ground floor comprises a traditional, atmospheric taproom with tables, chairs, and a pool table; while the top floor includes additional tables and several inn rooms for rent.
This saloon can serve as a central gathering spot for your players in a desert campaign—a hub for NPC interactions and a space for rest.
💡 You push past the swinging saloon doors to find yourselves in a taproom buzzing with activity: patrons chatting at tables, the clinking of glasses, and the sharp crack of a pool cue hitting its mark. The air is thick with the scent of alcohol and smoke. From the balcony above, you notice a few figures watching you intently.
Suggested Encounters
- Secret Rendezvous: The saloon is hosting a clandestine meeting between rival factions, and the party has been hired to spy, ensure the success of, or even sabotage the rendezvous. This is an excellent opportunity for your party to flex their stealth, eavesdropping, disguise, and sleight-of-hand skills to manipulate the meeting.
- Haunted Souls: The saloon has been taken over by the spirits of those who have died in a recent tragedy, replaying the event nightly. The party must interact with the ghosts using spells and roleplaying to uncover their stories and help them resolve unfinished business, so that they may finally be laid to rest. (We recommend using the Haunted Souls map variant for this one!)
- Medusa’s Gaze: The party stumbles upon an eerily quiet saloon: only to find that all the patrons have been turned to stone by a medusa. The party must confront her and avoid her petrifying gaze with unique mechanics, such as using mirrors or fighting in complete darkness. (We recommend using the Medusa map variant for this one!)
10. Mountaintop Observatory — Mesa / Arcane Cannon Dark Sun

To wrap up our top picks, here’s a spectacular location with tons of climatic potential: the Mountaintop Observatory.
The Mesa variant of this map features an idyllic observatory perched atop a mesa, peeking above the clouds. A winding set of stairs carved into the sandstone rock leads up to the observatory, where a small home sits below the observatory to create a hideout for a mysterious NPC or quest-giver.

The Dark Sun — Arcane Cannon variant of this map, however, adds a dramatic twist to the picturesque encounter: a huge red energy laser shooting from the telescope of the observatory, setting the scene for a final, deadly encounter for a desert adventure.
This map can serve as a pivotal location in any desert campaign, where your players can investigate celestial phenomena, as well as befriend or confront the mysterious guardian of this high-altitude sanctuary.
This map also comes with a fully furnished, multi-level interior, complete with cozy furnishings, intricate machinery, and a central piece: the magnificent telescope itself.

This map also comes with a Scene—a beautifully rendered, cinematic illustration that’s sure to immerse your players in their adventures. Check it out in our scenes library!
💡 As you ascend the sandstone steps, the air grows thinner. Clouds drift lazily below you like a sea of white and gold. The observatory stands proudly atop the mesa, its telescope pointing towards the heavens.
Suggested Encounters
- Celestial Investigation: The party has been tasked with deciphering a mysterious omen in the stars by reading star charts and ancient texts in the observatory. The players must solve a series of puzzles and riddles, perhaps aided by an astronomer NPC.
- Cliffside Ambush: As the party ascends the sandstone steps leading to the observatory, they might be ambushed by the antagonist’s minions or monsters adapted to the rocky terrain. The height and precarious footing might create unique combat mechanics that force the party to utilize strategic positioning, crowd control, and environmental hazards to emerge from the climb unscathed.
- Astral Convergence: The party must prevent the antagonist from modifying the observatory’s telescope into a destructive laser. The party will need to disrupt the ritual, such as by deactivating magical wards or realigning lenses, while also combating the antagonist. Alternatively, the party may need to convert the telescope into a laser themselves to take down a looming threat, like an invading force or a massive creature approaching the land.
