Barovia is one of D&D’s most iconic settings: a mist-locked valley of crumbling villages, wolf-haunted forests, forgotten sanctuaries, and one very dramatic vampire castle. Whether you’re running Curse of Strahd, exploring the new adventures in Ravenloft: The Horrors Within, or borrowing Barovia for a Ravenloft campaign of your own, the right battlemap can make every stop in the valley an oppressively unforgettable memory at your table.
Every map featured below uses a night, fog, or similarly dark variant. Most map packs in the library include alternate lighting, weather, or environmental versions, so plenty of maps designed for other settings can be drawn into Barovia with a little mist and a few creeping shadows. If a map catches your eye, open its pack and look through the available variants to find the version best suited to the dark valley.
1. Village of Barovia — Starter Village Series

Huddled beneath the shadow of Castle Ravenloft, the Village of Barovia is a deteriorating settlement haunted by wolves, ghosts, and vampire spawn. Most residents barricade themselves inside their houses, leaving its streets unnervingly quiet beneath the ever-present fog.
The Starter Village series depicts all sorts of small, simple rural settlements, making it a natural fit for your party’s arrival in Barovia. The series is also versatile enough to represent other settlements in the valley—for example, the pool at the center of this Heart of the Village map could stand in for the sacred pool beside Krezk’s Shrine of the White Sun.

Each map also comes with animated illustrated scenes of its interiors, such as this moonlit church that would work well as the site where Father Donavich has imprisoned his son Doru in the Curse of Strahd adventure.
2. Blood o’ the Vine — Twisted Tavern

Blood o’ the Vine is one of the few places in the Village of Barovia where travelers can expect anything resembling a welcome—though its owners secretly report their patrons’ activities to Strahd. The Horrors Within also places an ancient ritual site beneath the tavern, filled with the remains of a monstrous creature.
With its crooked walls, dark timber, and ominous eye motifs, this Twisted Tavern gives its uneasy hospitality a suitably Barovian edge, offering plenty of rooms for an overnight stay that the party may come to regret.
3. Svalich Woods — Dark Woods Edge

Dense woodlands cover much of Barovia, and the Svalich Woods are among its most dangerous. Dire wolves and werewolves hunt beneath the trees, while witches and strange hermits lurk within the forest’s deepest reaches.
This Dark Woods Edge map captures the unease of crossing into an increasingly hostile wilderness, with the path leading deeper into ominous, twisted woods, making it perfect for an encounter where the party realizes they have wandered into something’s hunting grounds.
4. Vallaki — Marketplace Festival (Gothic)

Behind its walls, Vallaki holds regular festivals to keep its residents happy, whether they like it or not; and anyone who remains insufficiently cheerful can expect punishment until morale improves.
This decorated but eerily desaturated Gothic version of the Marketplace Festival map captures that forced cheerfulness perfectly. A huge black pavilion looms over the square, while Barovia’s iconic haze settles all over the stalls and festivities, casting the celebrations in suitably oppressive gloom.
5. Tser Pool / Vistani Camp — Caravan Camp

Travelers following the road through Barovia may eventually reach Tser Pool, where Vistani caravans and other wanderers gather beside the water. Among them is the enigmatic fortune teller Madam Eva, who lives in the encampment and offers the party a glimpse of what may await them on the road ahead.
This nighttime Caravan Camp map provides a rare point of warmth amid Barovia’s dark woods, where wagons and tents circle a blazing fire beneath the trees—creating an intimate setting for sharing stories or receiving a reading, all while the shadowy forest beyond the camp looms uncomfortably near.
6. Von Zarovich Sanctuary — Forgotten Chapel Graveyard

Ravenloft: The Horrors Within includes an adventure set in one of the von Zarovich sanctuaries hidden throughout Barovia. Strahd uses these crypt-like boltholes as laboratories and prisons, though some have been forgotten and claimed by other evils. The sanctuary explored in this adventure lies beneath the churchyard in the ruins of Berez, where a shattered grave slab conceals the descent into its hidden chambers.
The ruined chapel and overgrown cemetery of this Forgotten Chapel Graveyard make it a great stand-in for the site above. While the adventure includes a compact dungeon map of the sanctuary itself, this map gives your party an atmospheric churchyard to poke around in before they discover the macabre secrets below.

The map also comes with an underground chapel crypts map, which can represent the sanctuary beneath the churchyard and carry the adventure into its buried chambers.
7. Old Bonegrinder — Mellow Marshland Mill

Old Bonegrinder is an ominous windmill occupied by a coven of night hags who bake magical pastries, making it one of Curse of Strahd’s most infamous encounters.
The nighttime version of this Mellow Marshland Mill gives the hags’ home a deceptively peaceful approach, its warm windows glowing across still water scattered with reeds and fireflies.

The map also comes with an animated scene that brings players down to the water’s edge as they approach the mill through the fog.
For a much more gruesome look inside, the animated interior of this Bone Mill map leaves very little to the imagination about what’s really getting ground into these pastries.
8. Yester Hill — Mysterious Druid Grove (No Statues)

Yester Hill is crowned by a circle of boulders where druids devoted to Strahd gather to perform their rituals. Beyond the hill, the surrounding Mists offer a haunting glimpse of Strahd’s ancestral homeland, forever visible but impossible to reach.
The nighttime version of this Mysterious Druid Grove places a raised ritual platform among moss-covered stones and enormous roots, providing a dramatic stage for the druids’ dark rites.
9. Castle Ravenloft — Cathedral of the Eight Exterior

Castle Ravenloft looms over Barovia from its high mountain perch, its vast interior filled with haunted halls, supernatural servants, secrets from Strahd’s long history—and, in Curse of Strahd, a deeply awkward dinner with the vampire himself. Deep within its catacombs lies Strahd’s coffin, making the castle the inevitable heart of any confrontation with Barovia’s Darklord.
This Cathedral of the Eight map is a hard one to beat as an imposing interpretation of Barovia’s most iconic dungeon. And for tables that find the black Gothic towers and bloodletting chambers insufficiently vampiric, the Massacre, Ritual, and Menace variants bathe the cathedral in enough blood and crimson light to meet even Strahd’s exacting standards for interior decor.
10. Amber Temple — Bone Dryad Ossuary (Onyx)

Hidden high in the Balinok Mountains, the Amber Temple was built by an ancient mage to imprison the vestiges of malevolent entities. Those vestiges remain sealed within amber sarcophagi, offering forbidden gifts to anyone willing—and foolish enough—to accept the consequences.
The Onyx variant of this Bone Dryad Ossuary is one striking interpretation of the temple’s corrupted inner chambers. Black-and-gold architecture surrounds rows of bone-filled alcoves, while the enormous skeletal tree gradually turning amber might suggest that one of the imprisoned powers has been busy.
