Journey to Horizon is a Daggerheart campaign frame that sends players across New Valloren, a continent transformed by a thousand years of magical catastrophe. Tasked with gathering the scattered Soul Echoes of the goddess Aurelia, the party must travel between isolated sanctuaries, ancient ruins, and strange new environments on a pilgrimage toward the distant Cliffs of Horizon.
Unlike some of Daggerheart’s other campaign frames, Journey to Horizon leaves much of its world unmapped. Exploration is a core pillar, and the book encourages GMs to fill New Valloren with wildly different biomes, natural wonders, and mysterious remnants. As such, this list below brings together some of the frame’s named and suggested locations, along with a few of our favorite ideas for filling in the unknown spaces in between.
1. Shrine of Aurelia (Marrogate) — Candlestair Shrine

The campaign begins in Marrogate, where High Priestess Saraya Rinn discovers the first Soul Echo while praying at the sanctuary. When her planned pilgrimage falls apart through betrayal, Saraya entrusts the Vessel to the party and sends them fleeing toward Cinteri.
The bright stone terraces and lush greenery of this Candlestair Shrine map make a fitting backdrop for a campaign centered on discovering the world’s strange beauty. With Aurelia’s magic and the resurgence of terrana transforming the natural world, all this greenery also feels right at home.

There’s also a shadow-covered version of the map if you want Tolren’s betrayal to have left a darker mark on the shrine itself. While Marrogate doesn’t canonically fall to shadowblight in the frame, the campaign’s escalating threats can cause sanctuaries to fall as the journey continues.
To that end, many of the map packs below also include shadowed, bloodied, or ruined variants, giving you an easy way to visually raise the stakes as the adventure progresses.
2. Cinteri — Celestial Chapel

Before the party escapes Marrogate, Saraya tells them to seek out Abbot Kensington in the nearby sanctuary of Cinteri. Whether they head straight there or take a “scenic” route to shake off their pursuers, Cinteri is one of the first major destinations of their journey.
The frame leaves Cinteri’s appearance open-ended, so this Celestial Chapel map makes for a lovely interpretation of the sanctuary. Tucked away among dense forest, it has a peaceful storybook feel that makes Cinteri a welcome place to catch your breath—while the chapel itself still looks suitably important for the first stop of the adventure.

There’s also a detailed interior map version, with labyrinthine bookshelves, research tables, and mystical decor giving you plenty of space for the party’s arrival in Cinteri and whatever meeting or investigation follows.
3. Cliffs of Horizon / Aurelia’s Remains — Sacred Grove

The party’s journey eventually leads to the Cliffs of Horizon, where Aurelia performed her final ritual and where her Soul Echoes must be brought together. The frame deliberately leaves the form of her remains up to the table, suggesting a twisting tree as one possibility.
This Sacred Grove map is an especially breathtaking interpretation of the location. The enormous ancient tree feels right at home in a campaign so closely tied to terrana and the natural world, while the stone henge tucked beneath its roots gives the party a striking final destination after crossing all of Valloren.
4. Cyntix — Overground Dwarven City Center

Cyntix is one of the sample sanctuaries in the frame, built above a seemingly inexhaustible vein of iron ore. Over generations, its people have become renowned blacksmiths and tinkerers, developing steam-powered technology and a minecart rail system around the thriving mining culture.
This Overground Dwarven City Center map fits Cyntix’s industrious character perfectly, with a huge anvil at the heart of the plaza and a nearby water wheel and glowing forge mechanism that make Cyntix truly feel like a city where metalworking shapes daily life.
5. Polwood — Gnome City Center

Polwood, known as the Sleeping Sanctuary, survived the Long Sorrow through a rather unusual approach: a specially brewed herbal tea that puts its entire population into a trance-like sleep, leaving a single caretaker awake at a time.
The book doesn’t prescribe what Polwood looks like, giving you plenty of room to make the Sleeping Sanctuary your own. This Gnome City Center leans into the settlement’s herbal side, with enormous mushroom homes and glowing fungi that give Polwood a whimsical look in line with its strange brews.
6. Harthaven — Annis Hag Lair (Natural)

Harthaven is perhaps the strangest of the sample sanctuaries, encased within the colossal ribcage of a long-dead beast. Its inhabitants draw warmth from the life force still lingering within the bones, while bonewrights carve protective relics from within its marrow halls.
The natural variant of this Annis Hag Lair map is a wonderful match for this eerie premise. Its enormous ribs and gaping skull could depict a grand entrance to Harthaven, giving your travelers a sense of the impossible creature whose remains have sheltered an entire community for generations.
7. Emberhold — Underground Dwarven City Center

Emberhold sits inside the caldera of a dormant volcano, where its forges never fully cooled throughout the Long Sorrow. Its people learned to channel that geothermal heat into radiant energy, powering the city from the fire beneath their feet.
This Underground Dwarven City Center map is a fantastic fit for that setup, with heavy stone architecture built directly around channels of molten lava. The glowing waterways and its monumental scale show how the whole city has grown around its unusual source of power.

This map also comes with an animated illustrated scene for showing off the scale of the place, dropping the players among towering stone structures and lava falls.
8. New Valloren Sanctuary — Yggdrasil Village

When Aurelia created the sanctuaries, colossal trees erupted around each shrine, growing high enough to touch the clouds before forming an impenetrable canopy. Their inner branches produced magical fruit and luminous flowers, providing the isolated communities with sunlight and rainwater throughout the Long Sorrow.
Yggdrasil Village isn’t a literal recreation of that ring of cloud-high trees, but its enormous roots and buildings tucked beneath the canopy make it a lovely interpretation of a sanctuary whose entire culture and architecture have blossomed under Aurelia’s miraculous growth.
9. Ruins of Old Valloren — Flooded Fey Ruins (Spirit)

The wilds of New Valloren are scattered with ruins left behind from before the Long Sorrow, some still holding ancient relics or haunted by lingering specters. With so much of the continent transformed beyond recognition, stumbling across one of these places can offer the travelers a rare glimpse of the world that existed a thousand years ago.
This spirit variant of the Flooded Fey Ruins is a hard map to beat at that sense of mystery and melancholy, with broken causeways disappearing into glowing water and strange will-o-wisps drifting through the darkness.

For a closer look at the ruins, this map also comes with an animated illustrated scene that offers a nighttime view of the looming statues and dark water.
10. Scars of the Long Sorrow — Shadow & Corruption Maps

Despite the return of terrana, the Long Sorrow left deep scars across New Valloren, ranging from abandoned fortifications inhabited by twisted beasts to sprawling marshes teeming with undead. As these scars can take so many different forms, filling the landscape with places that are strange and memorable is a great way to keep the frame’s iconic sense of wonder alive even when the journey takes a dark turn.
Since there’s no single look for these shadowblighted lands, try combining the Shadow, Darkness, Pollution, Sickness, and Ruin tags in the search bar to find lightless or blighted versions of all sorts of environments, letting you turn an otherwise warm or familiar map into an unsettling corner of Valloren.
