Western Wynandir is the political and cultural heartland of the Dwendalian Empire—a region where imperial marble and sprawling cities sit amidst crumbling ruins and haunted forests. Fans of Critical Role’s Campaign 2 are sure to find the name deeply familiar, as the Mighty Nein spent large portions of their journey here.
Whether your party is picking through the Pentamarket looking for a lead, receiving political summons to Rexxentrum, or pushing too deep into the Cyrengreen Forest, Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount gives DMs a richly detailed region to run. Here’s our pick of ten best battlemaps to bring Wynandir's cities, institutions, and wilder corners to life.
1. Rexxentrum — Grand Duke’s Plaza

Rexxentrum is the capital of the Dwendalian Empire and the seat of King Dwendal’s power—a city of crowded districts, surveillance, and gleaming institutional facades that paper over a great deal of political unrest.
This Grand Duke’s Plaza map puts that imperial grandeur front and center, with grand warrior mosaics, manicured topiaries, and an ornate central fountain giving every encounter and ceremony here the formal weight that Rexxentrum demands.
2. Library of the Cobalt Soul — Celestial Chapel

The Archive of the Cobalt Soul is an order of monks and covert agents dedicated to truth, operating under constant pressure from the Crown and Cerberus Assembly, with a hidden war brewing behind the closed stacks to drag the empire’s secrets into the light.
This Celestial Chapel map perfectly captures both sides of that tension—with orderly bookshelves and lecterns surrounding a sweeping chapel space that represents the order’s devotion to Ioun, with enough shaded mystery to suggest a hidden depth to the order’s archives.
3. Felderwin — Temple Pastures

Felderwin is the heart of halfling society in Wynandir, its farmland cultivated for over seven centuries and essential to the empire’s survival—which has made it a target for the Kryn Dynasty.
This Temple Pastures map captures Felderwin at its most inviting, giving the party a place they might linger in, let their guard down, and start to care about.

On the other hand, the massacre variant of the map is built for the aftermath of the Kryn raid, or for running the adventure hook “A Price Paid in Blood”--which sees a blood hunter arriving with the claim that a rakshasa has been secretly living in town.
4. Zadash / Pentamarket — Magister’s Market

Zadash is the central crossroads of the southern empire—a sister city to Rexxentrum where diplomats, trade caravans, and messengers from across Western Wynandir all converge, with the Pentamarket at its heart: a massive bazaar at the junction of the city’s main roads.
This Magister’s Market map is exactly what a DM needs to run a bustling marketplace, with a grand colonnaded building anchoring a field of colored merchant tents that captures the Pentamarket’s combination of civic formality and absolute chaos.

This animated scene puts the players at street-level amidst the bazaar, and is sure to make an impression when your party arrives at Zadash for the first time.
5. Bysaes Tyl — Fairy Treetop Village (Deep Grove Faction)

Bysaes Tyl is the only city of elven creation within the Dwendalian Empire, built by survivors of Molaesmyr’s destruction and preserved only under a tense cultural agreement.
The city is described as “a massive network of treehouses and bridges that form the canopy and upper levels”, and the deep grove variant of the Fairy Treetop Village depicts that exactly, with ornate elven platforms of pale wood and purple rooftops spreading through the boughs.

The illustrated scene gives players a vast and vertiginous view of the city’s elevated platforms and dark canopy above.
6. Amber Crossroads — Market City Walls (Village)

The Amber Road, Havenpath Road, Cloakjaunt Path, and Glory Run all converge in one spot, where a makeshift marketplace has sprung up in the wake of its extraordinary foot-traffic—drawing mercenaries, merchants, performers, and charlatans in equal measure.
The village variant of the Market City Walls map captures the beautiful bustle of a place governed by commerce rather than walls, with vibrant tents and stalls spreading out as far as the eye can see where roads converge.
7. Soltryce Academy — Demonic Library (Opulent)

The Soltryce Academy is the most prestigious arcane institution in Wildemount, with close ties to the Cerberus Assembly. Admission is selective and often politically loaded, and for any party digging into the Assembly’s shady workings, the Academy is both a resource and a risk.
The opulent variant of this Demonic Library map makes the Academy’s darker implications instantly visible, with sleek, clinical marble floors that give way to eerie eye motifs and massive hands.
8. Cyrengreen Forest — Dark Woods Edge

The Cyrengreen Forest hugs the base of the Cyrios Mountains—where most logging stays near the outer treeline because its shadowy interior shelters displacer beasts, angry fey, and hunting lycanthropes.
This Dark Woods Edge map is perfect for showcasing the dangers of the deep wood, where vivid greenery gives way to gnarled, darkened growth and purple fungal blooms.

The animated scene for this map depicts the point of no return, making the threshold of the deep wood feel just as dangerous as it should.
9. Grimgolir — Underground Dwarven City Center (Oil)

Grimgolir is a dwarven stronghold carved throughout the southern Dunrock Mountains, and is home to a society that prizes craftsmanship and martial skill above all else, forged by centuries of fighting back against the Betrayer Gods’ forces.
The oil variant of the Underground Dwarven City Center reflects the industrial character of the city well, with its geometric stonework, grand city-tiers, and dark canals flowing with oil.
10. Ruins of Shattengrod — Necropolis Entrance + Necropolis Dungeon

When a quarry near Pride’s Call broke open a pit littered with ancient bones, investigations revealed the sundered ruins of a prominent Age of Arcanum city named Shattengrod. Naturally, as excavations from the Crown and Cerberus Assembly commence, mercenaries are dying to “shades and hungry entities” now awakened by the dig.
Paired with its companion Necropolis Dungeon maps, this Necropolis Entrance map gives DMs everything they need to run Shattengrod as a full, multi-level delve complete with torch-lit corridors, decorated altars, and whatever has made its home in the deeper caverns beyond.
